I have a 2002 Audi TT (convertible, awd). The convertible top does not go down electronically, but it does go down electronically.
When I unlatch it and press the button to put it down, nothing happens, so I have just been pushing it back manually (a bit of an arm workout) and it slowly makes its way back. Then when I want to close it, the button does work to electronically bring it back up and I can latch it closed.
Any ideas as to what is going wrong here?

Nope, unfortunately I was never able to figure out what was wrong or fix the issue, and I've since sold the car - good luck, I hope you're able to fix yours!

First thing I would check is the switch...are you getting power both directions? If no, then your problem is electrical. If yes, then probably low on hydraulic fluid ... check the reservoir for level of fluid...if low, then you need to figure out where it's going. Audi still sells an O-ring kit to replace all O-rings, including the reservoir one. Mine was actually bad hoses.

Bad (top stowed) microswitch on the main top hinge behind the driver seat. Basically the car thinks the top is open, so won't power it up to lower it (again).
