Default Could a bad gauge cluster cause all the interior lights to act strange?

Ok, i have tried 3 batteries so I know thats not the problem. When the temp is below 45 degrees outside and for the first few mins the car is running it's like a disco in my car. All the interior lights are strobing, the fuel gauge is bouncing back and forth like crazy and I don't get a reading at all on the speedometer or tachometer. After the car warms up all is well and good except my fuel gauge is about a 1/2 tank off. Local shop said the gauge cluster is causing all of this. I want to send it off to bba-reman.com to have it rebuilt but don't want to send it off if this is not the problem. Don't want to run the risk that the same thing will happen all over again....any thoughts?

Default Erm....after reading about the problems on a UK TT site >

this sounds like the dashpod (gauge cluster) is busted :-(

This is what all the complaints were about on a consumer TV program (Watchdog).

And I hate to add, but these things are expensive (approx. ?800), unless your car is under warranty (which is 5 years over here).

Default $250 USD here

<img src="http://www.bba-reman.com/images/audi_tt_dashboard.jpg">

Audi TT instrument cluster gauges reading incorrectly or the center display failing.

This is for rebuild of your unit. The TT cluster encompasses the immobilizer, meaning if you were to purchase a new one it would have to be coded--an own unit rebuild avoids all this.

Shipping cost includes collection and return delivery. We always try to ensure a quick turn around, but instrument clusters can be quite complex. We ask that you allow five business days for us to fix it. In some occasions, there are problems with these units that are unrepairable. Call with your faults to get more information.

Call us at 1-866-573-2740 for more information.

BBA Remanufacturing specializes in electronic automotive parts. We provide a quality alternative to expensive new parts. All products are covered by a lifetime warranty.

Terms and Conditions:
Please verify that part number matches the unit that is installed on your vehicle. After the item is won and payment has cleared, we will arrange collection of the unit. Once the repair has successfully been carried out it will be sent back to you. For most products the repair will take 1-2 days in the workshop, some will take longer. Shipping both ways is included in the shipping costs. Not all parts can be repaired. If your part is not repairable we will offer you a replacement unit. If you do not want a replacement unit the purchase price will be refunded less any shipping charges.

10 Day Money Back Promise
We Want you to be totally satisfied with every purchase you make from BBA.
It is our aim to offer you quality at low prices. So if, for any reason, you are not completely happy with your purchase, simply return it within 10 days of delivery, unused and in it's original packaging together with the invoice. We'll exchange the product or offer you a full refund.

BBA Limited Lifetime Warranty
The BBA Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the repair of your unit back to its original operating condition for any problems resulting from manufacturing or workmanship defects. All internal components and labor performed by BBA Remanufacturing Inc are fully covered. It is valid as long as you own the vehicle and is non-transferable. Shipping, removal, diagnostic, coding, programming, software download, and/or mechanic charges are not covered by the warranty. If BBA determines the part is beyond repair, we will either provide a replacement unit, or refund the entire purchase price, at our discretion. Factors that could void the warranty include, but are not limited to: water damage, fire damage, over voltage damage, part being damaged as a result of another defective part in the vehicle, damage caused by jump starting the vehicle, improper use, use in an application for which the part was not intended, or untimely return of core unit (if applicable).<ul><li><a href="http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=audi_tt_dashboard_failing">ww w.bba-reman.com</a></li></ul>

Default Wow - we get told over here that they can't be rebuilt !! What a bunch

of lying ......'s (fill in the blanks):-) .

Audi tell us that we have to take the car in because of the coding that you're referring to on the link. They say that they are the only people who will know about how to code the cluster, blah...blah...blah

$250 is such a bargain. Another reason for me to want to move to the States.

Default Re: Could a bad gauge cluster cause all the interior lights to act strange?

...my fuel guage had the exact same problem read 1/2 a tank when empty...took it to the dealer and they said the cluster was bad (didnt have the light issue). Replaced it under my ext warr. (would have otherwise been $800)
