Default dealer gets color/options wrong--final report and moral

Last friday, after a year wait, my dealer surprised me with a call to come pick up my 225QC--I was surprised as I was expecting a call before the build was put in to finalize options, colors and price since I ordered before they were even known.

Apparently when the build allotment came up for my 225QC my salesman was on vacation. The guy who sent in the order simply used the info written in my folder (which was incorrect since last May we didn't even know the possible colors/options yet). I was told I'd be called, but nothing to that effect was actually written in my folder so to this other guy it looked like a solid order.

The General Manager apologized and offered either a slight discount on the misordered car, or to put in another order when the next allotment came up (and wait again). I was hoping for a different color but I took his offer and got the blu/blu 225QC for under MSRP. After driving it around this weekend the color is growing on me

The moral seems to be to make sure
you keep in good touch with your dealer--keep the relationship going so you know what's going on and they know you. Also make sure key issues (even obvious ones) are written down as they might not be so obvious a year down the road.

Default Always good advice...

Assuming that you like your sales rep (and why would you give a big commission to someone you didn't like), why not get a nice rapport going? A salesperson who knows you by sight and likes talking to you is more likely to look out for your interests.

Just don't become a stalker. =)

Default You got the right result

A very similar situation happened to me, with a very similar result. At least your dealer was willing to admit a mistake (mine insisted they had ordered what I wanted and that Audi screwed it up) and come up with a resolution with what sounds like minimal screaming and yelling on your part (mine required lots and lots of screaming and yelling).

You will ultimately grow to like your color combination (there aren't any really bad ones), especially when you consider that you got a deal.
Pat R -- Arlington, Virginia

Default This is EXACTLY what happened to me, but...

I refused the car, as delivered. Fortunately
the dealer (Danbury Audi, CT) found a car close
to what I wanted. Unfortunately it had the Nav
system, but I took it after he discounted.

I agree completely with your caveat. I too ordered before anyone knew anything and no one ever confirmed my options. Be careful out there!
