it's ever been changed...I bought my car used '01 with 20k on it and now it has 42k. The ESP warning light is on and that's why I don't think it was changed.

Default For a dealer, yeah sounds about right (EDITED) >>>

Approx breakdown
Parts: $55
1 hr labor: $100

The only way to tell if they changed it is to look at the filter, if it is metal then it was never changed. [Edit] Or they could have changed the oil but not the filter.

FYI: It's not a hard DIY job

Default ESP light would have nothing to do with the fluid not being changed

You need to find out what else is wrong, and get the haldex service done too.
