OK but first you need to close your eyes, put your left pinky finger on your nose, and spin around on your right big toe four times. Now do you really want to know? Because every code actually is a secret message about the underground network of worker fairies and gnomes and their whereabouts. You see, it's a secret organization that has been set up for the re-unification of dweebs and so on and so on and so on.......
Look in the actual shop manual (not the one in your glove compartment) sometimes the VIN #'s are described in there.

I have a copy of the Service training manual. It describes the VIN code.
I'll post on Monday what each letter means.
I can tell you that all TT's start with TRUT, and you have car #3495.
Ed

This link helps work out the code; although it has not been updated to include the TT, it gives you the system. www.euroselect.com/audivins/html

Default chip, your witty comments -

not.
and your advice - useless.
sorry to crash your party, but *your* VIN actually does carry quite interesting information about the car, its origin, its components, and most interestingly enough, for manus, dealers, vendors, and perhaps even the spooks...information that is all easily tagged and cross-referencable to YOU.
you think cookies on the web are controversial, wait till the industry gets hold of the powerful information about (again, ) YOU embedded in that innocuous VIN, and see what fun privacy-invading hi-jinx starts crashing your everyday reality. we should really *all* give a **** as to how those VIN codes are engineered, who possesses that information and how exposed we all truly are in terms of privacy issues.
granted, this post was probably an innocent inquiry into which # TT it was off the assembly line, and for whatever reasons - TT enthusiast, collectable value, or just plain mind-expansion, who the hell cares.
your sarcasm is neither necesary nor welcome on this board. its point, i gather, is to abuse another, and frankly, you're the fool on this one. pity him?
pity you.
if you don't have anything truly constructive to say on this board, get the f--k out.
i've enjoyed this board for three months now, but it's folks like you that really make it intolerable.
free speech, sure - tedious and infantile superiority complexes - spare me.
gs.
