Default Diff wheels on same TT?

Had the center caps off of the '00 TT180Q and noticed a difference between the wheels on the drivers side and the ones on the passenger side.
The driverside wheels have a cone shaped center but the pass side are flat.
Anyone else notice this? Is there a reason or was the design changed and this car has both an old and new design?

Default Interesting. You might ask this on the Wheel n Tire forum too...

I think the Audi OEM wheels are made by Ronal, and Gary @ Ronal posts there pretty often. He might be able to comment.

Default 3 of mine are one type, the other different. (more)

The shop that popinted this out to me says that with the volume of wheels that Ronal (or any other manufacturer) produces for people like Audi, there are bound to be different machining processes in the line, leading to these kind of differences.
ChrisTTopher Lloyd

Default Still, I wonder if it causes differences in rotational moment of interia...

I mean, from the pics Eric posted, there is some material "missing" from that hub region. How much difference does it take before that particular wheel has a different rotational mass?

Sorry. Don't want to freak people out. It probably is very small in reality.

Default "inertia" dammit. Fixed problem in "rotational" and missed this one... :(

Default I noticed mine were the same two when I sold them...

I called the dealer and asked them to get an honest answer from Audi. The reply back was that they use manufacturers that sub contract to different factories. I think this answer was made up because my dealer lies all the time. This looks intentional, but I don't know why.
2000 180CQ D.Blue/Ebony - MII mod

Default Yeah, it's probably small, if I remember my physics correctly

The missing material is in the middle, meaning it has less effect on rotational moment of inertia than it would if it were farther out. Right?
Pat R -- Arlington, Virginia

Default Yep, and I assume that whatever is missing...

...is still balanced out. If I had the inclination to pick up my physics formulary I could do a back of the envelope calculation.

That, or I could get some real work done. =)
