Default so, why not get 16s? better for snows anyway.
and as for steel rims vs. alloy ... I know the alloys are more work to keep nice in the winter, but man, they look a lot better than steel! there are some fairly low-cost alloys out there for use with your snows...

but you cheated - the steel rims have the special "white fuzzy inserts"... :-)
