Does anyone think this to be a little bit odd? (Dealer info.)

I called the dealership that's swapping out the turbo and everything of that nature on my car...

"Oh, well, we ran into something I forgot to tell you about..."

(uh oh)

Turns out they had a second TT in for service at the dealership for a CEL - emission problem due to what the service guys assumed was a faulty gas cap seal.

The service writer ordered parts from Audi, who in turn sent him 5 different gas caps. Of course, none of those 5 fit for some reason, so Audi asked him if they had a TT sitting around that they could temporarily borrow the cap from to check and see if it would solve the problem. Sure enough, problem solved on John Doe's TT. That left me with one less gas cap on an already non-working car. So, the solution to that, since my car was being fixed anyway was to install a new gas tank and fuel sending unit.

Wierd, huh? As long as I get my car back and it's better than it was before...

Damage estimates from parking lot before taking the car in for engine work include a new hood... front bumper repair and who knows what's to happen of the fender.

uh, yeah.. a whole new tank to replace the cap? ..

I ouwld ask what other parts they plan to cannabalize from your car, and offer to sell it to them for parts... WTF?

ebb(in memorium) 06-23-2004 09:35 AM

if ain't broke don't fix it...

with the problematic nature of the sending units I would not want them to fix mine if it was working ok...

I suspect that is illegal. After all you do own the gas cap, not the dealer.

TTempted 06-23-2004 09:37 AM

apparently it's a different size cap

TTempted 06-23-2004 09:38 AM

Well, it's fine though... gas tank is new now

TTempted 06-23-2004 09:38 AM

well, mine hasn't worked in the past

Sure it's fine, but the point is that it's illegal. They were suppose to get your written permission

Who knows what else they've done if they have done this! Kinda scary if you ask me. I wouldn't take my car back there!

TTempted 06-23-2004 10:21 AM

true... it is a bit scary

but unfortunately, they've been the best dealer to me so far...

so I'm either stuck with a dealer who treats me like crap because I'm a kid or I'm stuck with a dealer who tries to do me a favor by getting me some new parts

353/s/ 06-23-2004 10:43 AM

Yeah... I understand. Dealers treat me like **** too!
