Default Drive train loss...a question to think about....

Drive train HP loss is often said to be a set percentage of crank HP. For example, 20% loss is often quoted for the TT Quattro.

Why would it always be a set percentage no matter how much crank HP you have? It seems like the force required to turn the drive-train and move the car would always be the same and not always take 20% of crank HP. Wouldn't the percentage of loss decrease as the HP increases?

225 crank hp x .20 = 45 hp loss to 180 whp
500 crank hp x .20 = 100 hp loss to 400whp

...just doesn't seem right.

I should just search more for this info, but does anyone have a quick answer? Just wondering.

My "concept" is more like 30% + for the 225. You do the math.

Default Glad I asked.

Actually, I don't know why I bothered. :-P
