drivers side axle boot...massive grease around trans area...??
So I was trying to find out why my car was vibrating at high speeds...
found out it was one of my wheel bearings...took it to the dealer and had it fixed (McKenna@Norwalk - thumbs up - ask for Susan in Audi Service)
Anyways, while the mech had it on the lift, i noticed all the grease on the DS boot/axle/transmission (super greased out)...he told me that the DS axle is much longer, so the axle boot (as designed per audi) would seperate instead of tear...poor design if true, but is it?
I would think the boot would need to be much longer...but wondering if this is indeed norml.
..so if you're under your TT anytime soon, or know of this design please let it be known!..
on a 225Q TT

...sorry mo, i don't think i was clear...
if it was a problem i know it would be covered..i even have the extended warr ...
-the boot itself had a distinct molded line around the end side (wheel bearing side) When my TT's wheels where hanging from the lift, the axle boot would seperate and clearly show it came apart. I really wish i had my camera...im just wondering if thats a true design intended by audi...for the 225Q's or all Q's...

yeah, but the boot is NOT ripped...
Its as if the boot was designed to come apart when the axle is extended, then it connects again when not extended.
I wish i had my camera, and my car on the lift again...its tuff to believe that a design like that was made from audi for the TTQ's. I just want to see if anyone else has this problem (massive grease splatters/as if the boot were torn), or knows of it.

wow...i just thought the boot design would actually be
longer to accomodate that...so everyone with a TTQ (at least) will encounter this issue.
-don't be scared of all the grease you see people!
thanks TTschwing!!
(im glad i wasn't the only one...i thought my mech friend was on "something")

or possibly when high speed turning is acheived as well...
...like canyons, road courses...the extension opens the boot and "splatters" the grease EVERYWHERE! >
