EFI Question: Is the TT TBI or MPI?

Larrytt 03-28-2002 01:45 PM

MPI = Multi Port Injection.

The fuel rail with 4 fuel injectors sits above the intake manifold. Each injector shoots fuel into each manifold rail.

Thanks. I thought so, but wasn't entirely sure.

No problem. Glad I could help. :)

If you pop your hood open and remove the plastic cover you will see the throttle body on the right end of the intake manifold. The fuel rail is about 1" wide and runs left to right sitting on top of the four intake runners. Each injector has a black wireloom running towards it.

TBI = Throttle Body Injection is old school Fuel Injection and was mostly an American thing. I don't know if anyone is using it on new cars nowadays.

Last time I took off the covers >>>

It dropped a screwdriver in the compartment putting them back on. I had no jacks handy to lift the damn car up to get at any of the covers on the bottom. Took me about an hour to get the screwdriver back out.

I avoid that, unless neccesary ;)
