ENGINE MOUNT CLUNK HELP
I was experiencing a very sloppy and clunky feel between shifts and starts, I looked at the dogbone mounting point on the bottom of the trans and it scraped it right on the head of that bolt and it caused the bolt hole to crack a little bit on the trans.
I have since re threaded it using a heli coil which surprisingly seemed to work pretty well, I was able to torque it down to 30 ft lbs plus just a little with no problem. I also went ahead and bought a new dogbone mount and put it on too. Annoyingly, I still have the same clunky feel as I was getting before, no significant improvement.
What I'm wondering is, what else could it be causing this clunk, I checked the torque on most of the bolts on the subframe and they all seemed acceptable, nothing was loose. What other bolts can I check the torque on that would cause this.
Could it be the two upper engine mounts causing this? I'm not too worried about the crack in the bolt hole in the trans as the bolt felt very good when I threaded it in and the cracks don't go all the way down the bolt hole, they do not even go half way.
Other than that, the car drives GREAT, no shakes, doesn't pull, and it is a 225 6 speed so it is pretty fun too.
This isn't an extreme problem but i'm just annoyed that I can't figure out what it is. I'm about to be taking it to the DankFest show inside the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on September 30th too!! Super excited about that
AND ALSO!!! If anyone has the nut sizes for downpipe studs on the K04 turbo, please tell me what they are, the idiot that installed my downpipe before me used like 3 different sized nut heads and I would like to fix that because the exhaust is a little loose too.
I have also raised the the coils in the front too since this happened, the front was always a little lower than the back too so I fixed that.
Sorry for rambling and I hope you made it to the end, please give me ANY advice you could help me out with THANK YOU ALL
