Default Engine shut off, now won't start

I was just about to pull into my drive way on my way home from work, when my engine just shut off. I tried to restart the car and it sounds like the starter(?) is spinning but the engine doesn't turn over or even make an attempt to start? All i hear is a whirling noise...

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

I don't know if this is some sort of fail/safe or what. Don't know if this would be pertinent or not, but a few days ago, my brake warning light (o) went on, on the center display between the tach and the speedo. I really need to get this fixed asap, so if anyone knows what it could be, PLEASE let me know....

thanks in advance-

Default What do you mean by spinning?...>

Spinning without engaging the engine and turning it over? Turning it over and not firing? How old is the car, and most importantly, how old is the battery? These cars need batteries that are 100%. Anything less and weird things happen. If you're older than 3.5 years on it you probably need a new one..

It's spinning without engaging the engine and turning it over.

I just replaced the battery less than a year ago, probably around 6 - 8 months or so.

Everything powers up fine on the car, i just try and start it and the starter spins but the engine doesn't engage whatsoever or even make an attempt to start.

Default It's the Fuel Pump

Saw the same thing in an A6 a month ago. I got in and tried to start it and the starter would spin but no fuel. Another stranded Audi member.

but would that have caused the engine to just shut off, with no warning or nothing happening to indicate something was going to go wrong?
