ESP Light On - 01423 code

A few days ago, the ESP light came up and stayed on. I retrieved the fault codes and sure enough I got the lateral acceleration sensor fault code (01423). So I changed the sensor but the light is still on and we get the same code. My mechanic tells me I have to change the ABS control unit. I read the few posts talking about the code in the forums but could not figure out if anybody had success dealing with the same type of situation. Anybody know what is going on?

Actually...depending on the year of your car, there can be two sensors>>>

those with ESP have a second sensor under the steering column vs just the one in the passenger side near the glove box...

Do you mean what they call the longitudinal sensor? OK I will replace that. Thanks for the answer.

BTW, I have a 2001 TT quattro. Well the lateral one was $125. Is the longitudinal much more?

When mine did that I ended up having to change lat and long sensors.

Dealer did mine . He changed the wrong one first too. Many reports of the code indicating the wrong one. Saves diagnostic money just to change em both at first IMO.
Good Luck. You know they have to be calibrated ?

last price i saw was>>

close to 300$.....

I've replaced them both and they are under $150 IIRC

Thats what I remember too. Can be gotten from Impex.

I ended up paying dealer twice to diagnose install and calibrate. That was the more expensive part. Did you do your own calibration??

TIA

Yep, did it with a vag-com
