Default Exhaust pipe

I am a newbie to the TT world. I just looked under the aft end of my TT and noticed that the pipe connecting the front and rear muffler has got some serious crimping in it. Is this normal?
My car is a 2002 225HP coupe. Thanks.......

Has anyone done some surgery on the stock exhaust and fit a splice where the crimp is? I thought about that when I put the stock 225 dual on my 180. I'm guessing the guy who installed my exhaust could do it fairly easily. He hammered and heated out a reducing adapter in about :10 min. Would ther be any gains from doing it?
