Few more of these "TUNE UP" questions..
- While using Mobil 1 0w40 oil, would the Large Oil Filter (Mahle or Mann brand) from ECS be better than the Mobil 1 filter?
- Is it recommended to change the drain plug during each oil change? If so, would the magnetic drain plug be better than the OE drain plug?
- Is the tool that comes with the Haldex service kit NEEDED to perform the task? Or would the kit without the tool (40$ cheaper) be alright?
- Will be draining tranny fluid and replacing with MT-90. Is the Schwaben Drain Plug Tool necessary to perform this task?
edit:
- Also, How many quarts of MT-90 will be needed?
Will also be changing the cabin air filter like I stated before, and replacing the fuel filter with the Mahle or Mann brand one from ECS.
Thanks for the help once again

1. Don't know, sorry.
2. magnetic drain plugs have certain advantages over non-magnetic ones. I change my oil every 3k miles, however, so don't have it on my car.
3. You can get a H-wrench from Steve for cheaper and it even works better.
4. Mcphill has as very nice write-up for it on his fotki. Check it out.
5. Same as #4

The larger oil filter is for A4s, not the TT, It will work, however no gains have been attributed to
using it. I would use a stock filter over anything else. My dealer sells them for $7.xx out the door. Hard to beat that price either...

Re: Few more of these "TUNE UP" questions..
1. Mobil 1 filters are easier to remove other than that oem is fine
2. Use a new crush washer each oil change, the drain plug doesn't need to be changed everytime.
3. You need the tool to do the haldex filter
4. 2.8 liters of oil (3 bottles). Needing the tool depends on the year of your car, the earlier models (pre 2002) didn't need it. Mine uses it.

My responses (i.e. opinion)
The OEM oil filter is your best bet. The filter is such a PITA to remove, that going to a larger filter will make it next to impossible to reinstall.
If you are careful and properly torque the drain plug, it will not need to be replaced (assuming whoever last changed the oil did so as well). I have not used a magnetic drain plug. I have 148,000 miles on my engine, I change the oil every 10K miles with Mobil 1 5w-30 and the engine is about the only component of my car that has not broken. I have never needed to add any oil between changes.
Yes you need the Haldex wrench to remove the filter, although it is a one-time purchase.
To drain the transmission I believe you need a fat allen wrench, like 15 mm or something. You can get these at Autozone. Also if you have a quattro, be aware that you have a second drain that needs to be removed also. I think it takes 1.5 quarts but not sure. Do a search; this procedure has been written up before.
I did a write-up on the fuel filter replacement -- it's in the FAQ thread. The release button can be tricky to find.
Good luck

The transmission drain plug varies by year. My 2001 is a 17 mm hex, but newer ones have a
tripple square ("tamper-proof") pattern - not sure of the size.
My write-up is in the FAQ.
