Default Follow up heatshield question regarding gasket-matching....

I'd like to gasket match the intake manifold while I've got it out doing the heatshield.

I was looking at Tony's (Blue TTop) fotki on his install.

So, basically, you're just putting the gasket up to the manifold, marking the areas on the manifold that need to be "widened" and grinding and smoothing w/ a dremel, right?

Default and follow up follow up.....is there a big gain in doing this? What I mean is...

you're widening the ports on the manifold to match the size of the opening on the phenolic gasket, but are the openings in the cylinder head wider (the same size as the gasket), or are they the same size as the pre-ground manifold?

Default Check mine too Paul....>

You want the manifold to be "slightly" smaller than the gasket, and the head to be about the same as the gasket so you don't get a turbulent step introduced...It's prettyeasy with a Dremel...<ul><li><a href="http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/manifold_work/insulating_phenolic/">http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/manifold_work/insulating_phenolic/</a</li></ul>

Default Did you see this? Link.

I personally think there would be minimal gain but it does make sense to even out the airflow by matching everything up. When I did mine I spent about an hour dremeling and said "good enough let's move on."<ul><li><a href="http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/manifold_work/insulating_phenolic/">http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/manifold_work/insulating_phenolic/</a</li></ul>

I just now saw it.......A little nervous about taking a dremel to the cyl. head, though.

And I need to make sure all the little grindings fall into the cylinders to smooth those too, right?
