Default Not the same bulb. See link for front turn signal info and sources:

Yes the 12v/21w turn signal bulb at ECS is the one you want.

from the TT FAQ - front turn signals and parking lamps

Default EDIT: Oh heck those are just standard bulbs - part no: N 017 732 2; P21W 12V 21W

I would think AutoZone or any auto parts store would have those.

P21W 12V 21W equals:
Industrial Standard: 1156
Osram: 7506
Philips: 12498

Shown as #11 in image below:

Default which leads me to ask, "is there an amber version of the rear turn signal bulb?"

I'd like to have amber rear directionals and was driving behind an early Mk5 Passat today with what appeared to be standard-issue red turn signals until he made a turn and they lit up amber... appeared to be an amber bulb behind the red plastic lens. Is this possible with the standard US-spec TT's rear lights? (I'd rather not go through the hassle of surgery on the light assemblies if a simple bulb swap could get me most of the way there)

Default Google says: "yes!"

Try this search link or below is an example from the search.

http://www.eautoworks.com/html/productsorder-display.cfm?id=Psub246171</a
