G-Tech 0-60 numbers

I went to a local industrial park that was obviously deserted today and found a nice flat piece of pavement to do a few runs.

I don't know the humidity here today, but it's relatively low. Temperature was 84 degrees. I had 1/2 tank of gas. One caveat that I only realized after I finished is that I inadvertantly left the ESP switched on and I suspect it affected my numbers.

First 3 runs, East to West, very slight incline.

Run #1 - 6.44 sec
Run #2 - 6.12 sec
Run #3 - 6.04 sec

As you can see, I started out relatively unagressive and got on it more each run.

Reverse direction, going West to East, very slight decline.

Run #4 - 5.94 sec
Run #5 - 5.90 sec
Run #6 - 6.53 sec (bogged off the start....ESP in action and crappy clutch work)

I want to try this again on a cool morning with less gas in the tank and ESP switched off. I really think this car can do considerably better. I also never realized how much work goes into making a car go fast off the line with a manual transmission. I really need to revise my off-the-line technique.

SO there ya go. I'll report more info when I have it.

Oh yeah, I was reving to about 4K and dumping the clutch. This seemed to bog the car a little and I suspect this is related to ESP. I bet it would have chirped a little and really taken off with the ESP switched off. I also wonder if feathering the clutch in first gear would help vs. just dumping the clutch. Thoughts?

Nice times, what all mods do you have?

MAC225 07-15-2001 02:30 PM

For the G-Tech do you just plug it into the cigarette lighter, no hardwiring?

What cute lil numbers you have :-D

Rennen 07-15-2001 02:47 PM

That's it. Just plug it into the cig lighter and mount it on your windshield.

MTM chip, Forge Milltek exhaust (cat back), Forge DV

I have a bunch more mods, but those at the only acceleration performance mods unless you count the armrest. :)

i think you were wind-aided going west-to-east ;-)

About the feathering......

From my recent experience at an 1/8th mile drag strip(post from a while back) I must say that feathering the clutch works better than just side stepping it. I also experienced the bogging off the line even with ESP off when I would just dump the clutch. I suspect that the bogging is a result of just not having enough low end torque to get that beast moving or a result of the Quattro system but Im no expert so take that as you will. But, for comparison I previously owned a '95 Lotus Esprit S4S(Turbocharged Inline-4) and never experienced any off the line bog due to the fact that it a) had much more power and b) was rear wheel drive and would spin the tires before it would bog. My $.02 are that feathering is the way to go, brings the power on smoother and in some cases feels like it comes on much harder.

BTW, I have a 2001 225QC....

Good show! I forgot to get up early to get some readings... maybe I'll have to head out tonight! ;-)

Nope, no wind. I think the incline (no more that 1%) was the factor.

However, I think I can also attribute the improvements, to a large extent, to improvements in my technique.
