Default Getting the "chuff" sound when lifting throttle after installing Bailey DV

I do not recall having this sound at all with my '01 225, but I am getting it very distinctly now with my '03 225, although the boost seems fine. At first I thought I might not have secured the vacuum hose well enough, I had used two small zip ties. I then replaced with one large zip tie, but same thing.

In doing a forum search, most say this is normal for many aftermarket DVs (including the Bailey) when lifting the throttle in the 2-3K range. Is this normal or did I mess up the install of the Bailey DV? Keep in mind that this same Bailey DV came from my previous TT and according to AWE, they state that it does not require any lubrication because "they are constantly lubricated by the oil vapors found in the intake system".

Default OK. Guess I'll go out for a test drive and beat the daylights out of it

If the turbo doesn't explode, I guess it's good.

Just weird because it's really loud with the windows open and I never had this with the other TT. Maybe the plumbing is different on the new TT and causing this sound to be more distinct??

Default Try reversing the installation orientation. Installation either way is fine, but backwards will

give you a louder "whoosh" sound, similar ot Darth Vader.

Default Took it out for a 20 mile test drive yesterday afternoon, odd results...

Sometimes it would be a very pronounced "chuff", other times hardly at all under similar conditions. I was even getting the "chuff" when dropping off the throttle at higher RPMs, like in the 4-5K range. It was not as loud, but most definitely there.

But... maybe this is normal and I just did not notice it with my '01? I need to look at the airbox & plumbing on an '01 and compare it against my '03, perhaps it is different and as such allows more of the "chuff" sound through?

Default esp vs non-esp changes the intake boot

but that sounds like too much noise just for that.. still, if the DV is in good working order, I wouldn't worry.

Thanks Julie. I'm going to keep an eye, and an ear, on it.
