I think it is coming from the rear because the warning light for the front wear sensors hasn't come on. Anyone have any knowledge about this?

Could be the wear indicators on the outside front pads.
They don't have sensors on them, just the old style metal squealers. I had to replace the front and rear rotors and pads at 35k. The fronts were borderline and the rears were shot. If you are capable of changing the oil, you can change the brakes yourself. It's a little time consuming but not difficult, if you have the correct tools. Total cost for new pads and rotors is only like $250-$300 depending on whether you have a 180 or 225.
