Going for my first Solo II event on Sunday... Thanks to Steve S. on help in classification.
Sunday I do something in this car I havent done since 1974... autocross.
I have two choices in the class I could run that are separated by ECU/chip only. I could go into CSP (C Street Prepared) with all other current modifications and be in a highly competitive class. But I'm going to go into SM (how kinky), Street Modified instead where no "alphabeticals" are used... its one-size-fits-all modified class with potentially exotic and prepared machinery. A new class that will have fewer, yet potentially, faster cars. Chip alone is my ante for that class. I could lie like I did at 22-25 and sandbag, go into CSP instead. But at this age I wanna take my lumps with the big boys and let the chips fall where they may. I honestly have no idea what the competition will be either car or driver-wise. Will jus pay my money and take my chances. I just know I'll perform better against stiffer/faster (ideally) competition than I would against slower... ain't it always the way? Sure wish I woulda known where to get that Eibach sway bar last week... know it woulda shaved a few tenths off.
So spare a thought for me and wish me luck on Sunday at Coors Field, parking lot B, Lower downtown Denver. I take a bit of all of you with me on that ride. I'll have come full circle with my racing. Doing again what led up to where I am today and all I've moved through to be here... autocross. Life's full of fun little surprises.

Mance, to be perfectly honest the faster cars will be in CSP . . .
The SM class was made for turbo cars that are running street tires but have tons of engine control mods. These cars are rarely setup for proper high-speed driving, but instead more straight-line speeds.
The CSP class on the other hand is filled with people that are into Auto-x and getting their cars to perform exceptionally from a stop, around a turn, stop . . .you name it.
The better competition will be in CSP. Mance, you should be able to win SM without a problem.
Just go and have a good time, but compare your times to the drivers in CSP and you will see that you are 3-4 seconds behind them. It will be because they are on race rubber and you are on street rubber!
Good Luck! <p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>

Really? I was told a twin turbo NSX and two turbo'd Panteras could make an appearance.
And in the last event there was one turbo'd RS "Cup" 911. Most have said that "competitive-wise" CSP has it ALL over SM. But I kinda like slaying Goliath more ya know?
I'll take a look Sunday morning and decide if I wanna go after CSP or SM and do the chip swap on the spot if necessary.
Thanks for the "heads-up"

Panteras and NSX's are not very good auto-x cars,
I have seen modified NSX' in the past with pretty good drivers and not very impressive. The Panteras are MUCH nicer looking than they are fast in an auto-x.
Run in SM, but compare your times to CSP. The car without the chip will NOT have a shot! unless the CSP drivers are that aweful.
I always raced against HIGHLY modified CSP cars and VERY good drivers. It was fun because they used to win the Nationals all of the time, so I was able to see how I was doing in comparison.
Good luck.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>
