Gremlins...could it be the battery?
My TTR FWD 180 has 57k and I got it on 4/26/2000.
I am about 10k from my last service and oil change (I know, I am due for a service). 1. The cooling fluid temperature display does not work reliably anymore. It starts to move up, then goes back to zero... 2. At the same time, when idling (at a traffic light, for example) the OIL warning comes up. I have filled up one quarter of oil and the oil level is now high (measured with the stick). I am wondering if a low battery could cause that. I have no other symptom of low battery, however.... Ideas? |
Lots of bad instrument clusters out there - sounds like yours is bad : (

It very well could be...>
You are definitely due for a battery. These cars exhibit all kinds of bizarre behavior when the battery starts to go. I just replaced mine at 3.5 years. No symptoms or failures, but when resting voltage starts measuring 12V or less, it's starting to go. A good, fully charged 12V bat. will register 12.6. Anything under 12V is less than 25% of charge. Let it sit overnight or for a few days and put an accurate voltmeter on the battery to test. After 4 years, I can almost guarantee you need one though.
