Default Grinding sound when turning - Not front axles

Hi,

I have a grinding sound when making tight turns. For example, if I do a U-turn, then it grinds, and the grinding remains for a bit after I do straight again. Then it gradually goes away. It feels just fine accelerating hard up a steep, straight freeway.

I thought it might be a front axle, inspected and the boot was torn. So I replaced both front axles.

No joy - the grinding is the same.

I didn't think that it would be the differential because the TT is mostly a front wheel drive, and would not really be trying to drive the rear wheels. But I don't really know the facts.

Any ideas how to chase this down further? Is there a test to do in order to see if it's the differential? Are there other things that could be causing this?

Did you check the wheel bearings during the axle change?

You might check the brakes and brake shield too.

I did not - will look up how to do that. The bearings have never been replaced.

Thanks. I'll jack it up and spin the wheels when turned. They did look fine when I did the axles. Newish pads/rotors.
