gruppem intake: so, so nice
i know the gruppem intake is generally considered overpriced and pointless by those on this forum, but dammit, it's always looked so nice in adam's photos, so i bit the bullet and ordered one.
put simply, i have no regrets -- from the packaging on down, it is simply a wonderfully well-designed product (and built specifically for the tt). the fit-and-finish of the product is flawless and the weave is perfect. what's more, even the mounting setup appears oem (one of the two mounting brackets is visible in the photo), and they thoughtfully included a second air filter to put over the superfluous air pump hose.
as far as sound goes, it's a little more whistle-y than the bmc. the annoying blow-off-valve sound that the bmc had seems to be gone (unless i drive like an idiot), which is also nice. (other bmc owners have not complained about that sound though, so maybe mine was defective somehow.)
as for performance: i notice no difference relative to the bmc, but then again, my setup is pretty basic (chip and a few other minor performance upgrades). it's also been a month (abroad) since i've driven with the bmc, so i could be wrong.
appearance-wise, i find this to be by far the best looking intake on the market. i suspect i'm more conservative than most here when it comes to application of carbon fiber, but both the quality of the weave and the shape of the part makes me want to open my hood just to stare at it :-)

ps. also visible in the pic is my repainted oem strut bar. i'm really happy with the way the matte finish matched other bits of oem engine-bay trim. i can't for the life of me figure out why audi chose to paint the bar glossy black.

Very nice - just wondering and I think I know but
you were talking about one of the other Adam's right - because I had a gruppe M a while back, but I did not have it very long so thats what makes me guess that it was one of the other Adam's - am I right?
Regardless, it looks great and I am kinda bummed I did not keep mine

I had one and sold it to Adam, uneekTT. While it looks just gorgeous, it is....
uninsulate (mine was) and I could hear every pop, whistle, noise under the hood. Alot more than I wanted to know about in everyday driving. I have had stock, K&N, TTDA, GruppeM, and now VTDA. I like the VTDA best of all because it is insulated and flows very well.
I really don't care too much how my car looks under the hood, as long as it runs well and doesn't leak anything. I just don't have the time to even keep my exterior as clean as I would like much less under the hood.
Meem, you do have one of the most gorgeous cars out there. If I were to do it all over again, I would have the Amulet.
