Guess this answers the "why" of the white TT....
From PR Newswire
Silver, white and red were the most popular North American vehicle colors for the 2001 model year, according to the annual color popularity survey conducted by PPG Industries -- the world's leading producer of transportation coatings. |
"transportation coatings" = Car paint? White is often in the top 5.
|
They were the most popular because those colors were "picked"
by PPG about 5-7 years earlier as the colors that will be "popular" in 2001! I read an article on car colors years ago. PPG was quoted as saying they determine what colors will be "popular" years in advance. duPont and BASF do the same thing. These are the colors each company convinces the car manufacturers to produce and sell the most of.
Remeber the TT and most cars sell more prebuilt cars than special orders. The manufactuers determine what colors are "popular", not the consumer! Ever watch the lineup of PPG painted cars for the Indy500? These cars are all painted with "future" paint colors. They all eventually hit the market and are sold, either on a new car or in the aftermarket. |
But...the 'white' ended up on government cars and SUVs...go figure
|
They must have made a mistake somewhere, white ? top 3 colors ? hmmm
|
White's always popular and hot on the "right" car.....

|
Why did you get rid of that!??
|
They should do what's right vs. giving people what they want. :)
|
I thought that white was nice on my old A4....
The creamier 'casablanaca' VW white. Not the cold Pontiac/Maxima/Maytag current white. IMO the TT is so beautiful that it can hold any color, even Bug lime or apricot.

I have a silver TTR, other cars in the family are 2 white and one red.
