Default Had some fun with my Mark II suspension today...

This new suspension is full of surprises. One day I love it and another, I don't.

I was driving down a fast strech of US Highway and a Camaro wanted to play. Since his license plate said "Race Yah" I figured I just had to. I beat him due to better driving skills, I think, but the interesting thing is that lane changes at fast speeds are very stable now. The rear corner away from the direction I was turning in used to lift in these manuevers with Mark I. Mark II: No lift. VERY stable rear end. That will be a plus on the track! Just don't ask me exactly how fast I was going, cause I ain't gonna admit it. 105. I told you I wouldn't tell.

The other thing was highway driving down I-95. The car used to track right into ruts in construction areas where the old yellow or white line was dug out. I can still feel them, but I have better control. I know some of you will see this as a negative, but the car tracks truer "in-lane" now. It's easier to keep a straight line. Does this make sense to you? It's been a long day!

SO I guess it's the low speed arena where things are a bit de-tuned, but at high speeds, they have succeeded in the primary goal: safety.
Ivan

Default Agree. At high speeds on straight roads, the car feels better. It also feels...

More pinned to the road, due probably to the spoiler, and the different compression/rebound characteristics of the new Monroe dampers (which are also used on Porsches and Mercedes BTW). However, in the twisties, you give up quite a bit, in my view.

Default I felt exactly the opposite....

With the Mk II suspension, felt like I was waiting forever for the rear end to decide where it wanted to be. With the Mk I, I didn't feel any sort of indecisiveness. I do have to make a bit of a disclaimer though. During the time that I was taking both cars through their paces, it was never above 80-90mph, but I have to say, up to this point, the original setup is far superior.

Default I hear that someone (not me of course) has had a Mark II up to 150 mph...

At high speeds, on the straightaway, the car feels more stable (to me). Too bad they didn't offer these mods for the Germans only. Lawyers are to blame (sorry Den).

Default Nice to see you post, Jason. I must add that part of the mods was to reset tire pressures...

to spec. I was running 36/33 under Mark I and I was told they were set to 33/30 again in order to get a good alignment and road test.

I have not messed with the tire pressures yet for two reasons. I am trying to get a feel for the differences before tweaking with tire pressure and I am trying to eat these damn RE040's off my car.

The feeling was unmistakeable in the high speed lane change. Flat running and some oversteer, but not much. (This is what I perceived as oversteer: Turn in, move into lane, need to move the wheel back against the turn a bit to settle into the lane. Am I using the right word?)

Thanks for your comments.
Ivan
