Heavy Knocking from Steering / Shockers A9NEU
I have a 3.2 TT and for some time a heavy knocking has started coming from the front end of the car during parking on full left lock.. Its not a CV joint but i do suspect it could be an issue with the Strut.. Is almost like as if the strut at the hub is moving through a greater angle that the strut as it comes through the inner wing.. Then as soon as i move forwards or back wards there is a loud metalic bang.. Its evident from inside the car like as if someone just banged a hammer on the underside of the car.. From outside its sounds like something springing, like a brake gard or a coil spring. Its getting worse over time and the main stealer was not able to get the problem to reccur on the ramps.. Idiots..!

Re: How many miles??? could be strut bearings...
Its done about 35k miles.. The noise comes if i move the wheel to full lock when the car is static then move forward or backwards. Driving me crazy, i even demonstrated it to the guy prior to the service.

Ok...some things.....>>>
if it is a popping sound, then i would say it could be a classic symptom that is seen on most TT's. Your knocking description would make me thing CV joint, but after some other descriptions i am thinking this...
1- My car has had the same symptom on and off (popping sound)...On my last visit to my tuner, they regreased all of pickup points on the control arms. I have now put about 1500miles on it since that visit, and there have been no popping sounds..
2- Have your subframe bolts double checked for tightness
3- Strut bearings....while you do not have the mileage on them, it is possible a pothole or a hard shot may have damaged one...they should be inspected...
That is what i got......hope this helps..

What TTinCT said, plus check >>>
the sway-bar end links. On my previous TT the passenger side link had a failed joint that would generate a regular clunk.
Also lube the sway bar bushings to eliminate that.

Im more than capable of removing the shock and lubing all the ruber joints. But tell me one thing, you mention the sway bar..? Not a term im familiar with. You care to elaborate,, Picture would be nice.. Im sure i have one but im in Germany for the next 4 months and its not called that over here..

Here is a pic >>>
The sway bar is the curved bar below the axle. At the right front corner of the pic you can see the end link joint. And on the center (somewhat) where the sway bar bolts to the subframe you can see a bushing (identical one on the other side of the car as well).
