Default HELP! Timing belt tensioner question

I am having someone doing my timing belt right now, and on the timing belt tensioner, the roller (where the t-belt rolls on, on the tensioner) has some play.

Should it have some play (movement side to side) or should it be totally solid and not?

Default The tensioner is what makes the belt fail normally, not >>>

the belt itself...you should replace it if you are doing the belt...regardless of how it feels....IMO

Default yep, we're replacing the tensioner, water pump and belt...

but the roller on the tensioner seems to have some play, and we wanted to see if that was normal or not. Would hate to install it and find out it's defective and have to do it all over again.

Default thats probably nomal the crucial part is the pin that puts tension on the belt.>>

cause that is the part that fails most likely.

there has to be a "little" play...if that is the new part...you are more than likely fine

Default When I got my timing belt done, I was told the roller itself is worthy of replacing ... >>>

...while the assembly is hydrolic and doesn't need replacing at the same interval (60000mi). The roller corresponds to the small round part you highlighted in your pic, while the assembly is the rest of the part in your picture.
