is going out. It makes a horrible sound much like a walrus dying a slow death or something.
It still starts to spin as the engine warms up even though I have the control turned off from inside the car.
I don't want to have the car towed so I'm trying to deactivate it while I drive to the shop.
Any advice?
thanks

there is nothing to disconnect
i just had this problem; turned out to be the clutch for the compressor...turning it on or off made little difference until the clutch just self destructed and fell into the belly pan...then the noise went away ;-)

clutch is not replaceable and probably not worth the trouble anyway...
same compressor as a beetle and a bunch of other vw products. made by sanden and on ebay all of the time.
