Default How do you remove your factory stereo?

I purchased the right security keys from Metra Electronics, however, they did not come with instructions. I tried several times to insert the keys until they engaged inside the deck and pulled with all my might but all that did was scratch up my deck. I finally noticed a tech support number on the packaging the keys came in and spoke with someone at Metra who told me to apply pressure laterally towards the outside of the car on either side of the deck where the keys are inserted. This seems to help but now my deck has had so much work done on it that they keys fail to fully engage, are there any tricks to this? How about disassembling the dash secton with the stereo/AC controls?

Default Had this happen on my other Audi. Just hack away at it. try searching this site for a picture of

the stereo mount. That will give you an idea on how the mechanism works and might help with removal. I pressed thouse things in on my old car and that made it more difficult to remove the stereo, but eventually it came out. Taking out the dash requires the removal of the stereo (imho) so you might be stuck with just trying to wiggle that sucker out.

Default Did you make sure the beveled edge is toward the inside?

If not, insert key again with bevel edge (regardless of which side) facing toward the middle of the HU. Pull the HU gently on that side by sticking your fingers into the cassette deck. Stop, and do the same thing to the other side.

Patience and persistence gets the thing out.<ul><li><a href="http://jbipes.home.comcast.net/ttr/fabup.html">Bipes how to remove the headunit</a></li></ul>
