Default How much poop increase on a 180 FWD downpipe and cat?

Just lately I've really been wanting to do some good mods on my car that won't break the bank. Samco hoses look nice, but don't produce a lot, new turbo is expensive right now. Now that colder weather is coming and turbos love that, I'd like a little more power.

Default You have FWD!!>

Your car is a Mk4 gti/jetta.

Honestly you could slap a Mk4 turbo kit on for $2k tops. Kinetic has one I think. Consider this before you go buying mods because one day your "little" mods are going to add up to what you could have initially invested for a BT kit and be putting down double the power...

Best speed mods for your buck:
1. Ebay has a $100 dollar downpipe for it. It's a great mod. Go 3" & don't listen to people tell you ebay sucks, I've installed a bunch of these guys on multiple VW's. All metal might not be the same, but a price comparison of $300 to $100 it's all the same to me!
2. Get a custom cat-back welded up $250
3. Chip it $500
4. Cone air filter w/ heatshield (home made) $45

Default Got a boost machine, but no ****...

don't want to do the **** because mileage will decrease. Milltek exhause would be nice, but not in the budget.

Default "don't want to do the **** because mileage will decrease"... Huh?

There ain't no free lunch. More power = more fuel used in almost every case. If you use the new bits, whether it's the chip, BT, or ****, mileage will go down. If you coast around and don't "use" the bits, mileage will stay about where it is. In other works, the **** only uses more fuel if you use more "foot"...

Default Hmmm?

seems like if one has a larger diameter tube leading up to the MAF then fuel mixture would be increased, even at idle or light footing. I agree that most is in the foot. I don't really get on it that much, that is only when the cooler weather hits and seems to have this odd affect on my foot to the gas pedal.

Default Actually the fuel signal is decreased.....>

Air flows slower through a larger tube so the fuel signal from the MAF is actually lower. The 4 bar compensates, or you can dial in even more precisely with an adjustable FPR. Many have found little to no penalty when dialed in and driven in "economy" mode.....

BUT, as Mike said, More power = More fuel needed. There is NO free lunch here..

If I keep it under 80, I get 32 - 33MPG...:-) Not bad for 134K!
