Default I feel like crap, they're laying off people at my station, I'm still here but they get rid of the

people who actually do the work and keep all the managers. Some of those gone have been here over 20 years. It's a sad day at KPBS.

Sorry to hear it. I'm a bit surprised that even Public Television isn't immune.

Default I know of an (mid)entry-level marketing position in downtown SD - if anyone in your marketing dept.

was let go. The individual should have at least two or three years experience.

Default Given the way PBS spends money...

In all seriousness, PBS (at least national PBS) and NPR spend money like there's no tomorrow. First with stereo in most markets? PBS. First to use digital encoding for satellite broadcasts? PBS. First to go HDTV in many markets? PBS. And so on.

In many cases, national PBS is flush with the cash and makes the decisions and it results in stations ending up having to buy a $20K piece of equipment just to provide normal programming, which often results in situations like the above...

Default Given that most non-profit's operating budgets are atleast partially funded by undesignated gifts,

a downturn in the economy has an almost immediate impact, as people are likely to forsake donations before most other discretionary expenditures...

Default The institute the new technology for reasons of showing value for

the donation dollar, thereby using that as marketing for future donation dollars.

On a national level things may be flush at PBS, but not at the local level. Our local PBS affiliate just changed "formats" and pulled a 15 year long sponsorship of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. They also laid a bunch of people off a few months ago.

I think it is lack of donations, personally.
