Default I received another reply back from Hoppen w/ regard to the MTM chip..

...and it's specific programming for 100 octane gasoline. I'm not sure they have really told me what I want to know, but here is their reply:

"It will take full advantage of 100 octane fuel. Sincerely, Joe Hoppen Motorsport"

So the way I read that is that the chip does have programming to adapt to 100 octane fuel and will adjust timing advance, etc to take full advantage of it. Either way, I'm going to make a trip to the Sunoco this weekend and throw some in. could be FUN!

I like the way they phrase their answers to read like fortune cookies.

Default Dave, There is no doubt that you will receive a boost of

power by adding 100 Octane, as the ECU will advance timing to a certain extent when pinging is not detected.

But, there is a difference between having an octane specific program vs one that just adapts within the ECU parameters set from the tuner.

The difference in 93 Octane to 100 Octane on my car netted me 42hp at the crank (34hp at the wheels) on the dyno and this is just timing alone, no increase it boost pressure.

Default umm... yeah...boy they are sure good at giving vague response...

Eat my fortune cookie shorts!
<img src="http://www.webundies.com/images/fb038.jpg">

I called the other day and spoke with Mehgan about the programming. I specifically asked what octane rating the MTM chip was programmed for here in the US. I mentioned that I know the chip has a RON 98 rating in Europe. She replied, "MTM reprograms the chips for the US market" and it was programmed for 91 to 94. However, I called again today and this time she tell me that it would "take full advantage 91 to 100 octane." Hmm..inconsistent reponses...makes me wonder.

I'm pretty sure that they don't reprogram their chips, and if they did, it would more than likely be detuned for the US. Uh well, who knows. Guess my MTM chip that was retuned with a 3* advanced timing should "take full advantage of 100 oct." Who am I to complain...I guess I just want the truth.

"You can't handle the truth!!!"

Default I have an MTM in my 225 and I had spoken with Meegan to verify the 100 octane progamming and...

I can tell you beyond a shadow of doubt that it makes a significant difference. I have no instruments to actually measure boost levels and the such but here's my take.
I put in half a tank of 100 octane on an already almost empty tank and took off to the keys (about a 200 mile trip) You won't notice too much difference initially. I estimate about 45 minutes or so of driving and then things start changing. Sweet smelling exhaust and, for lack of a better word, a zip in the way the rpm climbs. I found myself able to accelerate very very quickly to "get yourself arrested" speeds. It was quite noticeable and very fun to drive. In all gears I noticed the increase performance.

By the way, I asked Meegan and she said that the MTM chip in my car is rated for octanes ranging from 93 to 100. Check it out and judge for yourself.

Default what Sean said...

Yeah, of course the car will take advantage of the 100 oct, but not completely.

Just to note, directly from MTM (not Hoppen), they do not reprogram their chips for the US and that it IS a RON 98 program. This would lead me to the conclusion that there isn't a 100 oct program. But hey, I have the same chip, anyways. I just know my car is pretty darn fast.

I say .... marketing marketing marketing.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/754606.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/754606.phtml</a</li></ul>
