equipment?

Do I only have to worry about the wheels being balanced after the work?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Default Dont require a "tuner"... even an alignment/brake shop can do it. No wheel balance but an alignment

is a good idea.

Do they need special equipment because it is a Quattro?

no... most any "quality" alignment shp has a Hunter Laser (or equiv) rack. Just pick a GOOD shop.

Default Hey Mance, has Jim Paris ever over torqued your lugs?...

They did a great job on my A4, but they must have let one of the youngsters put the wheels back on with the impact wrench. I bent my M3 lug wrench removing one of 'em. 8^)

Default Yeah but they only use a "click-type" torque wrench on mine making three passes to final torque

But I know sometimes something gets past them. Mention it next time you're in to Jeff. He'll take care of you somehow

Default Please explain "three passes to final torque"

Default ahhh Cliffs never done a cylinder head. Let me explain...

For simple math, lets say your ideal torque is 70 ft lbs. First snug everything down finger-tight. Then make your first pass to say 40-50 lbs in a criss-cross pattern (top-to-bottom-left-to-right). Then make another pass to 60 or so ft lbs using the same criss-cross pattern. Then set your torque wrench to final spec and make one last pass to 70 ft lbs. DONE!

If wrench is not a click-detent type just use its face indexing.

This creates a uniform torque rather than stressing any metal or mating pieces.

good explantation - thought all torquing was done that way, not just cyl. heads.
