Info on new downpipe mk1 1.8 help

Hello I am currently improving my 2001 mk1 1.8 I have some questions I bought an 3 inch downpipe and is still stage 1 no tuning if I put in new downpipe with tuning could I go for another month until I can afford the stage 2 tune????!?
