Interesting observation wrt dying battery - "lazy" tachometer.
About 4 to 6 weeks ago I noticed my tachometer would stay at zero for about 2 to 5 seconds after the car started. I was worried that the cluster was failing. Then in cold weather during a trip to Penn., my clock reset while starting the car. Yesterday we had cold weather in Texas and my car was noticeably weak starting and the clock reset again. The battery had a dead or dying cell. After replacing the battery today, my tachometer is no longer "lazy". It begins working as soon as the engine starts.
So it appears that this delay in the tachometer working is a probably early indicator of a low voltage situation related to a battery on it's last legs. Thought this might help others diagnose a battery issue before it dies completely.

It's a good diagnostic tool as are most gauges...<ul><li><a href="http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/airfuel_and_voltmet/">A/F and matching volmeter for $45</a></li></ul>

You can also view the warnings on the Temperature Display

It's good to know others have the same problem, my tach only acts up when the weather is cold too,
never crossed my mind that it could be the battery. TT is 3 1/2 years old with 46k, might need a new battery. I also get the temp warning for about 30 seconds on very cold mornings.
