Default Just got my Garrett chip (stage one) today!!

I know this has been talked about many times before...
but, the Garrett chip is great! My 180TTQC is totally transformed. Five gear is like how fourth used to be, fourth is like third was... etc. (in terms of power at a given speed). And I can finally spin the tires (not that I want to).

I had it installed at Shine Racing, which surprisingly seems to be the only place in New England that installs Garrett chips. They've already asked if I want a larger turbocharger put in (I saw a K03(?) sitting on a table there). I'll probably go back to them. I just wish they weren't so far away!

Soon I will get the Borla exhaust. I've heard this is easy to install. Any comments? It looks like it will require another trip down to Shine Racing to at least get the chip reprogrammed.

Default Re: Borla install

Sounds like you have a FWD not Quattro - make sure you get the right Borla part number as the Q and the FWD are different.

As far as install, it is simple and straightforward. Any shop with a lift can do it in about 30 minutes or less. You may want to use higher quality clamps at the two points requiring pipe attachement... There have been reports of exhaust leaks with Borla parts. Other than that, when you get it, go back to Shine and request the Stage II upgrade. Should be a minimum charge but it is definately worth it.

You'll love the combo of higher output chip and exhaust upgrade!

Good Luck!<p><a href=mailto:"azsyno@aol.com"><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/sigred2jpg.jpg"

Default Borla install on FWD

Install is straightforward on Quattro but the existing cat back pipe on the FWD is one piece and MUST be cut behind the front resonator and the rear axle. There is a straight section just forward of the rear axle with three dimples on the pipe. Cut across the center dimple and the two pieces can then be removed. No other way to take it out.

Also the FWD does not have the 2 clamps mentioned. The front pipe of the Borla uses
the existing slip clamp that the stock exhaust uses; no replacement needed. The after axle section of the Borla uses a 2 bolt flange and gasket to connect to the front section so, there is no clamp here either. You also must remove the rear heat shield plastic cover.

TT must be lifted at lease 20" to remove and install.<p>Lake Silver/Ebony 180FWD

Default No its a quattro...

why would you think its a FWD? because I spun the tires?

they didn't really spin much - only for a fraction of a second when releasing the clutch at 3000+ rpm on a somewhat sandy road. it was more the smell of rubber that told me I spun them than the sound.<p>Aviator Grey 2000 180TTQC

Default Re: Borla install on FWD

I put the Borla on my quattro five months ago and had a persistant exhaust leak at the factory clamp just past the catalitic convertor. I had to apply some exhaust pipe sealant to the clamp and pipe to stop the leak. I wanted to keep the factory slip clamp because it is much heavier than after market clamps and provides much needed support at the connection point. I did use a different wrap around clamp for the rear connection in place of the Borla clamp. The wrap around type clamp is much better than the Borla provided clamp. I used a little sealant on it also for a perfect seal.

Look for black sooty deposit around the seam where the pipes are joined.

After tightening everything up and starting the engine I could hear and feel exhaust gases leaking with my hand. At the rear clamp condensation was dripping out of one end of the clamp so I sealed it too.
