Is it just me or does Terry Griffin seem rude sometimes? Bay Area TTers, please respond.

I know he does great work and comes highly recomended, heck, I even got my suspension upgrade done by him. But for some odd reason, he doesn't seem very customer oriented, especially on the phone.
Just an observation.

To be honest, Joe, I do not . . .
He's kind of funny (people say this about me too, so I don't say this to mean "odd"), but given that I just spoke with him before I signed on, I'd have to disagree. Terry can keep phone conversations short and to the point while at work, but I've also talked with him for well over an hour on numerous occasions.
When I call Griffin I like the fact that I can call and talk directly to someone that I consider to be very knowledgeable. I first met him at the San Francisco Auto Show just before my TT was delivered, and found him to be cordial. He was willing to talk with someone that didn't know very much (that would be me), but knew a few things from time (well) spent, you guessed it, here on the Forum. He didn't talk "down" to me, which is more than I can say for many people in the industry.
That's my opinion, and for what it's worth.

He can appear that way on the phone, but he is a real character in person...
will talk your ear off if you let him.... It is just a quirk that I would not let get in the way with doing business with the guy....

He is a character, no doubt...
which may come off as rudeness to some, and it depends on the day. I'm from New York so I hardly notice. :-) Seriously though, Terry is really a good guy... last time I was in his shop it was only the second time... it had been six months since I first met him and he greeted me with "hey Evan" as though I had just seen him the day before. He even gave me a free can of brake cleaner since I needed some (good PR move since he'll be getting my business in the future anyway.)
Give him a chance, Joe.

Customer oriented is an interesting phrase...
FWIW, I don't find him particularly rude but he is very direct. I find that he doesn't BS around and that I like. I agree with Chuck in that I appreciate when someone is frank with me and VERY knowledgeable, especially because I am not (knowledgeable, that is).

I'm not saying that he is rude all the time, but there were a couple of times when I think I just
shouldn't have called him. Again, like I said, he does good work and I see why he comes highly recommended. I've done business with him and I will continue to do business with him.
