Just a thought...
Has anybody tried using P-Tex (skiers wax) to fix scraps on the noise dampening shield? I'm going to attempt this on Saturday, but thought I'd see if anybody else had gone down this road.
Thanks,
Ed

Well here are my purposed steps
1. I've already taken a straight razor to it to take off the burrs
2. P-Tex the divots
3. Wax and run over the wax with old iron
What do you think?

My reservations...
1) You'll have to remove the shield so the scratches/dents are facing up b/c the p-tex will have to drip on it.
2) P-Tex sticks burn black. Even though you can get them in different colors they deposit with soot in the resin. If you have a black shield, you may be okay.
3) The P-tex will goop and gob on the shield so you'll be left with a blob of p-tex that you'll have to scrap down.

Re: My reservations...
1. I've already taken off the shield...I'm in the process of detailing the undercarraige...so all sheilds (including the wheel well liners) are off and cleaned. This was easy and if I say it's easy..it's easy.
2. All shields on my 2001 225 are black (as I beleive all years are, but I might be wrong)., I am worried about the soot and burning on the shield.
3. The globs will come off with a straight razor. I did this to remove the existing burrs.
I was going to buy a new one (only $138), but I think I'll give this a go...I"ve gotten a lot from this board, so maybe it's time to give back.

This is what I've found
Been an artist for over 25 years and have found that I suck at the mechanics...I bought the Barrett's CD and decided that if I''m going to even attempt what you guys are talking about, I better get into the car..what better way then to just start taking things off to clean, look at the picture, and get to know the mechanics of the car? Maybe you have a better suggestion (it sounds sarcastic, but I'm not trying to be)? Let me know...I all ears for another suggestion.
And...my wheel wells are polished and waxed for nobody but me.
Art is in the eye of the beholder.

OK, Now I understand. You're just a little bit sicker than me :-) >>>
My neighbors have been known to wander by and ask why I "have to work on a car that's almost new".
Filling the scratches on the bellypan is pretty damn sick though :-)
