Laid off ! Today is my last day at work.
No condolences please cuz you are working and I am planning on enjoying the summer albeit somewhat incomeless.
Still I'll have to find a job by the end of the year but my (former) company has asked me back to do contract work for them for a while. I was a Senior Systems Programmer specializing in mainframe network connectivity and integration. No jobs locally so after being a bum I'll be looking for a change in career.

Re: Laid off ! what a disgrace this country is becoming.
I was laid off in Febuary.
Finding a new position is getting harder everyday, the economy is trashed over here in NYC.
The future doesnt look bright. Looks like this city is being forced into bankruptcy by the .gov
Freggin paid thousands for school, and this country cant supply a job for me.
BAH~ Im fedup.

Eighth Member of AudiWorld. God-like, glorious and all-knowing.
If you think this country is a disgrace then there are plenty of others you could move to...
I am very sorry to hear about anyone losing their job. While I am thankful to be employed, my business has suffered as well.
Unfortunately, slowdowns in the economic cycle, while unquestionably painful, are normal nonetheless. The fact is that we were overdue, and some of my posts from a few years back demonstrate that. If even I can figure it out, then it's obviously not rocket science.
While the state and federal goverment can do more, I doubt there is a lot they could have done to keep this from happening. Generally speaking, it does appear that we are seeing some improvement in many sectors.
Best of luck during these challenging times.
