Least intrusive cost effective mod
I have a completely stock '02 180QC and I'm wondering what is the least intrusive (call little attention to itself during service appointments) cost effective mod. I'm a fairly conservative driver but would like a little more torque in 1st and 2nd gears. I can't get used to having to rev to 4500 to go 30mph. I also don't want to have voided warrenty issues. I've alredy talked to my "service advisor" about changing the DV and said "it will void your warrenty", so I know I won't be taking my car there for my service appointments. My '88 RX7 felt stronger at the lower gears.

I'd go for...
One of those Audi Elvis dolls as seen in Audi's European TV commercial. Should give you about as much additional low-end torque as many aftermarket exhausts, if my guess is correct. To view the video, follow the link below:

if a dv will void your warranty, ANYTHING you do will too...
at least as far as that dealer is concerned.
most effective mod as far as cost is definitely a chip, but the dealer will notice should something in that arena ever becomes an issue.
(note, when i had my transmission replaced and some other service/warranty work done, the dealer didn't know that i had a chip. ultimately, they don't care, but they didn't know it until after i told them.)

almost a funny story...
dealer: your car seems to pull a lot stronger than some of the other ones we've had in here.
me: yeah, the chip makes a big difference.
dealer: oh, you've got a chip?
me: umm... [uncomfortable silence] uhh...
dealer: that's cool. apr or garret?
me: huh? oh... umm... apr.
dealer: cool. (proceeds to tell boring story at which point i stopped paying attention)
so, that was that. = )
