Long-term tire report: Kumho 712 Ecsta
225/45/17
34,000 miles in near daily use
- VG (not EXC) dry and wet handling. Wet has stayed good up to recent mileage.
- Noise has increased after 25K, noticeably.
- VG+ slalom performance, not wobbly on transition from side to side. Good initial and linear turn in.
- VG+ at higher speeds, no hunting
This is probably an AVG to Above AVG tire for the US$ spent. I've driven them nearly 100m daily, and they can still run up/down the Tail of the Dragon at creditable speed and safety. They are not Goodyear F1 or Yokohama Neova, but they'll do for this type of driving. Keep the others on your DE wheels!
BTW- when they run off, they run off. I have developed a nice 'slope' on the inner edge even thought the car is kept 4W aligned. I'm getting new tires o/a 11 March. I haven't yet chosen my next, as the car is no longer required for the 100m round-trip commute. Maybe the F1 GS-D3?

Interesting, I think you can always pay more for a name, without, getting......
a better tire, not always true, but in some cases. I was suprised that the Goodyear tires sold by Sears are made to Sears specs and not like the ones sold elsewhere.

that seems to be pretty good performance especially for the mileage...
I am currently running the Toyo T1-S in the summer and they are great tires, but I haven't been as impressed with them as I would have hoped. I have yet to hear bad things about Kuhmos. I'll probably be considering them next time I'm in the market.

Euro Tuner did a broad tire test recently....
The Kumhos are not cutting edge IIRC. But as daily drivers, they are a great alternative.

Hiya RoberTT! I like the twisties too.....
..... and surprisingly have had little outer edge wear. I do get all the way to the edge of the tread, but I've not had any outer feathering.
I suppose it takes meticulous alignment checks, and I'm sure you do them. It may be where I drive and when, as much as how often. I'm at the limit probaly <10% of my driving, but that accounts for more wear, disproportionally.

hmmm... wonder how they would hold up at a DE on the track...
I'm pretty convinced the Michelin Pilot H rated all seasons will stick damn near as well in the dry as my Toyos will, but they overheat on the track and get greasy. The Toyos are also too soft for me. The suspension should handle the ride quality not the tires.
