Default Loose serpentine belt. Stumped!

My son and I bought a nice little 2000 TT with bent valves, etc. All fixed now and running very well, except the serpentine belt is too slack. I bought a new belt, a new tensioner pulley, then pulley assembly, but the belt still seems too slack because the tensioner is almost fully extended. It makes a tapping at idle with AC running, which is annoying. The alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor are all bolted on correctly, and there’s no adjustment that I can see. I don’t know if perhaps one of the pullies has been changed with a smaller size, but they look about right. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
David

I have not. Assuming you bought a new belt based on a parts list and not the number on your old belt, either verify pulley sizes Sometimes crankshaft pulleys get changed to "add power". Otherwise, buy a smaller belt and be done with it.
