Default Mance(EXTTREME) posted something awhile back and I'm bring it back to discuss.

The topic was about Extrude Hone. What was said was bascially....

its a GREAT way to add HP. And its very very safe and impossible to detect without removal and very very innocuous even if found. No harm in better engine breathing alone. They wont fault you for that. I would guess that a 225 intake/exhaust manifold extrude-honed/gasket-matched and cylinder head ports externally ground to match gasket with a K03 turbo would net somewhere in the 25-35HP range. And closer to 45-50 w/K04. And its a harmless gain. Doesnt add any additional stress to whats already "upstream." If you blow something you can safely bet that this modification played no role in it. In fact it probably went a long way in helping to prevent it.

---Can we really see 25-35hps from just porting our intake manifold???---

https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/85045.phtml</a

Default was thinking of something along this line when I pick up new TT in a 1.5 months.

as I am not very knowledgeable about the workings of an engine. If I were to have this done, would this affect an aftermarket chip's performance and function?

Default ...and your reasons are?

Thsi is not for the faint-of-heart here, that can only do relatively simple bolt-on, bolt-offs.
You would need to dis-assemble * a lot* of your car, I suspect, for maybe a week or more, depending on who you know/where you live, etc.
It may work, and it's probably great, but this is a lot to do, and a lot of work for th average person.
I'll wait a year or two for this mod.

Default Only if it changes the smallest diameter within the pipes (intake/exhaust). Airflow resistance comes

80% from the pinch point. Extrude honing on high vacuum or pressurized output would have minimal flow effects without an increase in the piping, IMHO. On a natural aspirating motor doing the intake and porting are about all that is left to find power. The pressurized intake on our motors should overcome the turbulence createde by minor rough spots.

Default I talked to a VW race tuner and they did flow testing of the 1.8T and said ...

they felt not much to be gained cost/performance wise.

I honestly don't know if that applies to our engine but I would imagine it would since I called him about him doing it to my TT. Why would he turn away a chance for big buck if he really didn't think it would be worth it.

I concur w/ your viewpoint..However, it may prove more beneficial on a 180 than 225.
