guides.....
I'm looking to keep it fairly cheap (under$2500). I don't really care about HDTV either, because it's not available in my little BFE town and probably won't be for a while.
I've got a decent sized room, not huge though and need something a bit bigger than my little 21 incher. I'm considering 55 - 60 inch.
Thanks

I have a pioneer 64" that I love...
I think that you will find that people most often compare the Mitsu, Toshibia, Sony and Pioneer. I personally belive the the Pioneer is the hands down winner...of course I would that is what I bought, I belive the Mitsu is a close second but in the end the Pioneer comes out on top.

IMHO the Pioneer Elites are the best looking RPTVs out there...
Great color, wonderful contrast, and especially great blacks. That's what many plasma displays and many other RPTVs can't do but tubes always have been able to - do great blacks. Try a B&W movie on the RPTV you're considering and see how it looks - is it washed out or do you have a full range of greys?
The Pioneer Elites, as I said, have always excelled at this, IMHO. YMMV, of course...

Bought a 40" Panasonic LCD at Best Buy for $2800 - Looks like Flat Panel & Has HDTV
TV has the 9:16 aspect ratio, is rear projection but is LCD. Very vivid color. Looks alot like a flat panel. Excellent reviews on the internet.
TV has a unique feature where it has a front connector for signal from my laptop. I can run MPEG movies downloaded from the internet and running off of CD-ROM in laptop.
Load www.kaaza.com on your computer and then search for DIVX and you will get many current movies that can be downloaded and burned on a CD. You may need various CODECS to play them on your laptop. Those are also easy to find and download. Generally, within a week of a film's introduction you can find it on kaaza.
Most films are 600 to 800kb and will fit on most CD's. The downside is that you really need a broadband connection because files of this size generally take me a couple hours to download, dependent upon where they are coming from.
