Maybe the funniest (and embarrassing) thing that will ever happen to me...
Today will go down in history. Here's the story...
Today I met for the first time with a new buyer at a large Grocery Chain in Southern California to preview and get agreement on new items for 2003. This buyer will purchase approximately $72MM from me and my company next year, and the importance of the meeting was not lost on me - I prepared for this single meeting for the last 3 weeks.
Today at 10AM I walk in, introduce myself and we begin. Later on, we am 1 hr into the meeting, have gone thru 98% of the material and am getting ready to wrap things up when she states that she wants to taste one of our new items (I am in the Consumer Packaged Goods Ind). OK, no problem I thought to myself...
I begin to unwrap the item and it will not open. I then (this was the BIG mistake) put the package up to my front teeth to "pop" the cellophane. Instead... MY RIGHT FRONT TOOTH POPS OUT OF MY MOUTH AND BOUNCES ON HER DESK ONTO THE FLOOR!!!
Yep, a crown from an accident years ago decided to give way and I am sitting there as she hands it to me from where it landed next to her feet! OHMYGOD!!!
From there, I try to go on for about 1 more minute before deciding that I cannot and I simply got up, thanked her for her time and left. She and I were both laughing at that point (although I was trying to NOT open my mouth!), and we knew that I needed to get the hell out of there.
Looking at myself in the rearview mirror minutes later as I began the drive to the Dentist, I could not stop staring... I looked like a FREAK. :-)
4.5 hrs later, I have a temporary bridge crown and all will be fixed in about 4 weeks. I spoke with the buyer late in the afternon and she told me that as soon as I left she started laughing and told everyone near her about my little 'incident'.
I'll probably never forget this... pretty embarrassing and pretty funny stuff.
PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. LOL!
