MP3 bleg. Playing MP3s in the Coupe. Phatnoise or Ipod link?
My wife's new job involves listening to MP3 podcasts (don't ask), and for this purpose she will have a non-Ipod device.
If she wants access to these in the TT Coupe, what's the simplest way? Install the now cheaper Phatnoise, or does Jeff Bipes's Ipod link work well for other MP3 players? A simple link has the advantage of maintaining portability.
If you're recommending the Phatnoise, I'll need advice on where to mount the thing.
I'd prefer to keep the CD changer. I'm not cool enough to commit completely to MP3.
Recommendations to search the forum archives will be cheerfully ignored. This is your chance to be an expert.

Jeff's stuff was NEVER I-Pod specific
That just became the norm. It will work with any device with an output. I use mine to play my Sirius. Only problem may be avilability as Jeff seems to be on to other things.

I sit in front of a computer all day - so I've never needed the portability of an ipod. I went with a kenwood music keg (which is essentially a phatbox) but it works with my kenwood headunit. The phatbox is really great. Super easy to use and navigate. I have two cradles for it. One at the office and one at home. That way I can keep everything synced no matter where I "find" music The vw/audi phatbox's are real cheap right now too.. check ebay.

As far as mounting it goes... I ditched the 6-disc and put the phatnoise in it's place. Other options are: attached to the back of the folding rear seat / on the floor behind the drivers seat / on the floor of the hatch area.

I have both...
I got the Phatbox 3 years ago when they made a special Audi production run. I got the iPOD Photo-60 a month ago with the FM transmitter.
To me the deciding factor is if you want to listen to your MP3's when not in the car. The iPOD is very handy and I can find things faster (out of 10,000 tracks). The Phatbox is always there and ready to go without thinking and having it 'speak' the ID3 tags is nice.

I was surprised how well it worked, but I don't have a 'high end' car stereo in anything I drive.
I primarily use it in my Jeep Wrangler's stock audio system and it's as good as a CD or the radio. The link will show the model I got at Best Buy. What's cool is you can take it in any car and control the music. My wife hates it when she's driving and I'm in the back seat.

DLO FM Thing
