Default mysterious noise found!! Think I may have a lawsuit going :D >>>

So over the past 2 weeks, my car has sounded real bad, not the engine, part of the drive train sounded like it was thumping and grinding... anyways... Went to Metric Motors today in Sonoma, California. Great Place, Awesome people. John at MM said it was probably the motor mount and said I would be Ok for awhile. On my way home the grinding noise got so bad I pulled off the road. I was half way home so I just said F*@# it and just drove home. About 1 mile from my house my car would shake like I was driving over boulders or something if I went above 40 mph.. So at that point I called a local mechanic, the mechanic who did my tb, then drove to his place. I got there and he said it was definitely my motor mount and said to just drive it carefully home about 3 miles away...When I got home, I pulled it all apart and this is what I found...

I was just like WTF?!

Anyways he did not use new bolts when he put my motor mounts back on nor did he use new bolts to mount the engine to the engine mount..

AND NOW.. the mount connected to the engine, the one that the motor mount bolts to, is stripped for the most part..

Should I tell him to pay for the parts? it was most likely HIS fault?

Thinking of putting in those VF engine mounts.. any feedback

Link to first post

Default The Engine Mount Bracket is aluminum. Those bolts were cross-threaded into it.............

Whoever installed those bolts really screwed up. At the very least, they should have to pay for replacement of the Engine Mount Bracket, new bolts, and any other damage.

Default If it is a reputable shop then they should want to make it right. I would start by showing ........

him the pictures. I would also expect them to inspect for any damage and to make repairs. At the least I would be concerned about the stress put on the other engine mounts (tranny & pendulum).

If they give you any crap, go get the car fixed by a reputable shop and send the original mechanic the bill. You might want your attorney to write a letter, etc. All depends on how they react.

Really sucks because that is a rookie mistake. Makes me wonder how they could have properly supported the engine.

Default Why? Does your attorney have a helicoil set?

Ask the mechanic to repair it. A reputable shop will make it right.

Default actually no, but my dad does :)

We, my dad, neighbor, and I, tried to take the bracket that the motor mount bolts to, so we could helicoil it, but we just couldn't get it out.. now putting it back in and..

Does anybody know how much to torque the 3 bolts that go into the engine?
