New 3.2 TT? What's the deal?!?
My wife picked up her third TT in November -- a 2003 225HP all options dark green metallic, grey leather lined beauty.
She traded in a 2001 225 HP TT, and before that a 2000 MTM modded 180HP version.
Each one has been slightly better than the last.
Current specs on audiusa.com shows that holy grail of quickness at 6.3 seconds. Now a new non turbo version with a 6 engine and 250 HP comes out and has claims of 6.4 seconds.
In theory the old phrase "there's no replacement for displacement" comes to mind and if the engine is smoother or in any way a better performer, I'm all for it.
But, a very mild chip in the already .1 second quicker 225HP will make it's performance drop at least another .3 to .5 seconds -- for way below $1000.
Why bring out a marginally lower performing TT?
We went to the TT gathering last year and saw what has been done with this very tunable engine and all the cool aftermarket stuff that people do to their TT's. From one standpoint, since the new 3.2L TT will not be turbo'd it is less tunable.
I know there have been many comments about the TT being a little long in the tooth (which we, frankly aren't in agreement with) but this does not seem like a step in the right direction based on the metric that is often used -- quickness.

I don't think the TT is all about straight line speed, IMHO the new TT is a nice package, I would
love to test the new tranny in the snow... sounds perfect for that... I'd be willing to bet that some of the test cars running around up here this winter were probably so equipped.

speed aside for the moment, my greater concerns are what looks like a longer wheelbase...
and I would love to know what the new front to rear distribution numbers are? I think the new TT may be a handeling pig.
